How to Set and Achieve Great Family Related Goals
© 2018 M. Mitch Freeland

Sadly, less than 5% of parents write out family goals. Your family goals will shape your life. Deciding what you want in your family life has an overwhelming impact on your other goals relating to your career, health and fitness and financial plans.

How important is your relationship with your family?  Is it important that your family is financially secure if you should be hurt or die?  Do you need or would you like a new car?  Do you want to spend more time with your children?  What will bring more joy and happiness to the ones you love?

Below, write down ten family related goals that would bring your family closer together and bring more joy and happiness into the lives of the ones you care about.  Think clearly about what you want and what you believe is best for your family.  Try first my making your goals as affirmations.

Family Related Goals:  Examples written as affirmations for making family mini-goals:

1.  I am spending more time with my children
Mini-Goal:  I am spending fifteen minutes more each day, before bedtime, reading to my little boy.

2.  I am the spiritual leader in my family
Mini-Goal:  I read one page of the Bible every night to my children and wife. Afterwards, we discuss what was read for thirty minutes.

3.  I am enjoying driving a new Subaru Outback for family camping trips to Lake Ichyguppy Mini-Goal:  One weekend each month I take the family camping, to the beach or on a nature hike.

4.  I am financially prudent with my investments so that my wife and children are provided for upon my untimely death.
Mini-Goal: I invest $100 extra a month into an emergency fund. Or, invest $35 a month in life insurance.

5.  I am sending my children to the best school in town
Mini-Goal: I invest $100 a month now so that my children will be able to attend the best school in town in ten years or when they turn ten years old. (This mini goal is wrapped around a long-range goal)

6.  I am preparing to invest in my children’s education
Mini-Goal: I save $5 a day for a special college fund so that my child, in fifteen years will be able to attend UCLA

7.  I am training and educating my family about physical fitness for a lifetime of excellent health
Mini-Goal:  I run one mile every morning with my son.
Or, for breakfast, I eat walnuts, yogurt and a banana with my son.

8.  I am a patient, understanding, forgiving mother and wife.
Mini-Goal: I sit quietly and listen to my daughter.

9.  I instill discipline and diligent work ethic for all of my family
Mini-Goal: I tutor my child in history for twenty minutes on Monday and Thursday at seven o’clock.

10.  I am teaching my children to be self reliant of mans help, but reliant on God’s help
Mini-Goal:  I counsel my children with a passage from the Bible every night at nine o’clock.

DON'T UNDERESTIMATE YOUR POTENTIAL

© 2018 M. MITCH FREELAND

I want to talk to you today about your potential.  John C. Maxwell said "...success comes as the result of growing to our potential."   We all have great untapped potential.  Why do we then come up so short to reach it?  One reason could be that our lives are rushed in the wrong direction—doing the wrong things—things that do not lead us in the true direction we want to go.

It is said that when you get heavy resistance in something you are doing, it is because you are on the wrong path.  It's said that if you are unhappy doing what you are doing, and you are getting heavy resistance, then God is telling you that you should not be doing this thing.

Many people have not yet discovered their purpose. When you find your true purpose, you will still get setbacks and resistance, but you will also get plenty of little victories to offset the defeats.  Find what you enjoy doing.  In time, the money will follow.  Do what interests you.

The most successful people in the world will tell you, 'do what you love,' and be the best—success will follow you around the corner and catch-up to you. Don't live somebody else's dream. Your dream must be your dream. You must own your dream.  God gave you great potential—it was his gift to you.  Stretch yourself to limitless potential.  Here is how you grow to your maximum potential:
  1. Write down your mission
  2. Write down your major goal and focus on it daily
  3. Begin using mini goals daily to help achieve larger goals
  4. Concentrate on today and the future
  5. Leave the past where it belongs
  6. Ask yourself "How far can I go if my potential has no constraints?"  God knows the answer. And now so do you.

The information is comprehensive and extensive while still having a high level of readability due to the straightforward, concise manner in which it is written. Author M. Mitch Freeland writes in a way that takes advantage of just about every page, making sure that the book is educational essentially from start to finish. As well as this, I personally found that the majority of the book was quite enjoyable to read due to the very uplifting and motivational undertone of the writing – it’s clear to me that the author truly cares about helping readers, and for that alone I can’t help but recommend this read to others. I look forward to putting what I’ve learned into practice and I’ve already begun creating a goals-list of my own. A must read.

Good Things Happen
© 2018 M. MITCH FREELAND

Good things happen to us all. The problem we have is that we do not fully recognize the good—because it is right in front of us.

Do you believe in positive expectations?  You should.  What is it you expect out of yourself, out of your life?  Produce your life by loving thy neighbor.  The good that comes out of this will surprise you. Do not look for gratitude, or thanks—it might take years before you get it.  Be true to yourself—you are not in it for the accolades—you are in it because it is the right thing to do.  Think of it this way:  What would please God?

During Christmas, my neighbors give one another plates of cookies and other baked goods; but during the rest of the year we rarely, if ever, speak to each other. We are all busy doing our own thing, moving along in life with our families and our inner circle. We do not intentionally want to hurt anyone, but we are, at times, neglectful of others, we are careless, narrow minded, focused on jobs, careers, family issues and problems that appear to pop-up one after another without much of a break in between.

So, what are we to do?  You do not have to go out of your way to help others in need, you only have to be true to yourself and this will lead you in the right direction.

Action Step:
One day this week, after work, do something nice for somebody. God is always watching and He knows when you do something from the heart. Helpfulness is more than doing an act of kindness; it is knowing that you are there—that you are available—that you are willing to take the time to care about another human being. What if you went to a co-worker, neighbor or somebody you know and said:  “I was thinking of you.  How have you been doing?  Here are some chocolates for you and your family?  My family loves these? And I think yours will too.”

Is doesn’t matter if you understand the situation others are in; the only thing that matters is that you love one-another without prejudices.  And do not ever judge another human being.  Each of our lives is different and God did not intend to make us into anything that we cannot be made into without his help. He knows what we are capable of.

A first step could be to start right at home, on your own block.  Do something nice for your neighbor.  It can be as simple as bringing in their garbage cans or putting their newspaper on their front porch.  Maybe you would like to bake cookies or make a cake or cut some flowers from your garden, or fruit from your fruit trees and present them to your neighbors or co-workers.  When I had mango trees producing more mangos than my family and I could ever eat, I would fill dozens of bags of mangos and take them to my employees.  They loved it.   What if you baked something once a week for a different neighbor?  Would it really take much out of your time? You can do it while you cook your own dinner.

Showing that you have been thinking about them and that you care means more than you think, especially during hectic times.  Little things do indeed go a long way.
